(Obverse) The seated figure of Britannia, her left hand resting on a shield and her right hand holding a trident, with a blazing sun upper right. The words FOR GOD AND THE EMPIRE inscribed round the upper part of the circumfrance, with FOR in the wave lower left above the exergue which bears the word GALLANTRY.
(Reverse)Four lions passant gardant, with the Royal cypher in the centre surmounted by an Imperial crown and the words INSTITUTED BY KING GEORGE V in two concentric arcs.
